Basic Avian Anatomy

Goal:

To learn the basic anatomy of avians.

Description:

In order to diagnose and treat problems which arise in birds, it is important to have an understanding of the internal composition of these animals. This presentation examines avian body systems— cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, excretory, immune, integumentary, muscular, nervous, reproductive, respiratory and skeletal— and describes the role each plays in maintaining the health and protection of birds. The organs which comprise these systems are further explored, and human and avian skeletons are contrasted.

Objectives:

1. The student will examine avian body systems and determine the role they play in maintaining the health and protection of birds.

2. The student will determine the functions of different organs inside a bird’s body and how they relate to its welfare.

3. The student will contrast the avian skeleton with that of a human.

Basic Canine & Feline Anatomy

Goal:

To learn the basic anatomy of canines and felines

Description:

In order to properly treat and care for your cat or dog, it is imperative to properly understand the eleven body systems— cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, excretory, immune, integumentary, muscular, nervous, reproductive, respiratory and skeletal— and determine the role each plays in maintaining the health and protection of your pet. This presentation also classifies the organs found in each body system and explains their importance in the function of the body. The skeletal systems of cats, dogs and humans are also contrasted.

Objectives:

1. The student will examine canine and feline body systems and understand their functions in relation to the animal.

2. The student will classify different organs in the body systems and explain their importance in allowing the body to work.

3. The student will compare the role of the skeletal system in humans to that of felines and canines.
